California Minor's Compromises
If a child sustains injuries and there is a settlement greater than $5,000, then a minor's compromise must be filed with the local court to get approval by a judge and get authorization to set up a blocked account until the minor reaches 18 years of age. This process can be daunting, espcecially for attorneys that are not accustomed to dealing with these kinds of cases. California has recently changed its procedure to expedite the procedure to accomplish minor's compromises, including an expedited form (MC350 EX) that does not require a hearing. These changes went into effect as of January 2010.
